I created a profile on Yahoo! Personals in December 2003, but I did not become a member at that time. I was not ready to dive into the singles arena yet, so I waited until the time was right. My divorce was final on March 1, 2004. Fortunately, I decided my life was going to be happy with or without a man in my life. I focused on my job.
More frequent responsesOne day in April, I found that the email responses to my profile were becoming more frequent, so I decided to become a Yahoo! subscriber. There was a particular response that I needed to see, so

It had been several weeks since he had contacted me by email and if faith would have it, he would still be available. His email was titled, "Let's have dinner." I replied to his email positively and ended with, "If it's too late, I wish you well."
I sat down to watch the local TV news and was stunned to find he was being interviewed! Great timing! I proposed a meeting with Guy at the end of May, but he suggested we meet May 7th -- at his home. Since he was on television, I figured he was credible. Of course, I told everyone who I was meeting and where. When I arrived -- very excited and hopeful --

We talked for several hours getting to know each other. When I left at midnight, I knew it was a definite connection. As the month dashed on, we discovered we were in love. Remember, love is something you can't control. The man of my dreams proposed to me July 31, 2004, while we were standing next to Arlington House, the Custis-Lee Mansion, in Arlington Cemetery, overlooking Washington, D.C. It was incredible as well as unusual. Guy tells the story much better than I do and we joke about it at times, because I didn't even have a clue and he was so nervous. I wish we had it on video. What a wonderful experience for both of us. We love sharing the story. We were married on March 26, 2005.
Success tips from Gilda- Really focus on creating a great profile. Be as truthful as possible.
- Make sure your profile is positive in tone.
- If you are not ready to begin dating, wait until you are. You'll know when you are ready by the way people around you are drawn to you with a smile.
- Make sure you know what qualities you want in a person. Take lots of time -- no hurry. I used Yahoo! Personals for five months before I found someone who was right for me.
